What is mononucleosis?
Mononucleosis is an infectious disorder usually caused by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). It is also called psycho or "kissing disease". You can get the virus through kissing as well as things like sharing drinks or silverware. It is contagious, but you are less likely to have a cold sore than other common ailments.

Mono is not usually a serious illness, but you may have complications that make it more dangerous. Mono symptoms can range from mild to severe. You will not be able to participate in your normal daily activities for several weeks.

Causes of mononucleosis
Many people come in contact with EBV as a child. However, this does not mean that you will get mono. You can carry the virus in your body for the rest of your life without the symptoms of psychosis.

EBV is part of the herpes virus family. Most people come into contact with it at some point in their lives. In the United States, about 85% to 90% of adults carry the virus by age 40

How do you get mono?
EBV is spread through body fluids, usually saliva, so you can get it through kissing. You can also get it if you share food, drink or silverware with a person or rarely, if an infected person has a cough or you have a sneeze. If someone with mono uses something like a fork or spoon, the virus is still contagious, even if it is still wet.

EBV can be spread through blood and semen. This is uncommon, but you can get mono from treatments such as blood transfusions and organ transplants or through sexual contact.

Mononucleosis Symptoms

Some people have no symptoms or ones that are so mild, they don’t notice them.
Most people who get mono feel better in about 2 to 4 weeks. Sometimes, fatigue can last several weeks after that. In some cases, it can take 6 months or longer for the symptoms to go away

Complications of mononucleosis
Complications from psycho can be serious. They may include:

Swollen tonsils. These can narrow your airways, making it harder for you to swallow or breathe through your mouth.
Enlarged Spleen If it becomes severe, your spleen may rupture. It causes sudden sharp pain in the left side of your upper abdomen. If you have this type of pain, it is an emergency. Take care of the treatment now. You may need surgery.
Liver problems can cause your hepatitis or jaundice.
Blood problems. Your body can destroy many of your blood cells (hemolytic anemia). Or you may not have enough platelets in your blood (thrombocytopenia).
Cardiovascular problems. Your heart muscle may swell (myocarditis), or you may have an abnormal heartbeat.
Nervous system problems. This can include convulsions, encephalitis, or inflammation of the tissues that cover your brain (meningitis).

Mononucleosis treatment
No medicine treats psychosis. Antibiotics and antivirals do not work on EBV. Here are some things that can help you feel better:

Lots of rest
Lots of fluids
Medications such as acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for fever and pain
Corticosteroid medications for swelling in your throat.

Home remedies
There is no specific treatment for mono, but you can help ease your symptoms. Taking care of yourself with the help of rest and sitting at home remedies can help make you more comfortable.

Staying hydrated
Drink plenty of water, fruit juices, herbal teas, soups and broths. Fluids help reduce fever and soothe sore throats. Drink as much as possible to increase your energy levels and prevent dehydration.

24-05-2020 Cancer & Alzheimer's May Be Prevented

Cancer & Alzheimer's May Be Prevented  America's top killers are heart disease, obesity, cancer and Alzheimer's disease. Want to know something interesting? All of these diseases are associated with insulin and leptin resistance. To put it more simply: There is an underlying problem that results from eating large amounts of carbs and / or protein. Processed foods and grains, which Americans consume as they go out of style, are loaded with sugar. Eating all these sugars builds up leptin and insulin resistance in the body and it keeps the body fat. Additionally, this resistance can cause inflammation and cellular damage. How can you fix this? It may be time for nutrients to enter your body. This means your body starts burning fat instead of glucose (sugar). As more research has revealed, studies indicate that a ketogenic diet may be the answer to many health problems, including cancer, heart disease, obesity, diabetes and Alzheimer's. T...

Why do so many older people limp? By Dr.Firoz Ali Biswas

Why is limping so common, especially in the elderly? Dirschl : There are four basic reasons why people develop a limp. Something is painful, stiff or weak—or one leg is substantially different. That last option is responsible for only a small percentage of limps, so I will focus on the first three. Any one of these, or any combination, could cause someone to limp. Let’s begin with pain. In younger people the primary cause is physical trauma, such as sports injuries or motor vehicle accidents. The most common cause of pain in older people, however, is arthritis, which causes pain as well as stiffness. If someone already has a limp, inflammation makes it even more pronounced. Pain can affect any of the limping-related joints: hip, knee, ankle or foot. Discomfort in any of those locations is common and is likely to be experienced by more and more people as they age. Each specific location causes a slightly different kind of limp. Diagnosing the cause of a limp is ba...
